Broken Stick Arts & Crafts

About Us

The Genesis

How It All Began

Broken Stick Arts & Crafts was created from a desire to ‘Do what makes you happy’ for a living. Dennis & Susie, husband & wife owners, have always had a passion for creating art and crafting unique, nature inspired pieces that others could enjoy.

Craft fairs is where it started for us in Southern CA. Loading up an old 1965 Ford pick up truck, we enjoyed every aspect of designing and constructing our booth, setting up the displays to meeting so many like-minded folks who found respite on the weekends from their 9 to 5 jobs, peddling their hand-crafted wares outdoors in nature.

Eventually the dream turned into reality when we decided to go all-in and find a live/work, mixed-use building in a move to Northern CA. It was a fixer upper on both levels. Both of us having interior renovation experience, we were excited about the challenge of turning this 100+ year old building into our own Rustic-Industrial style with living quarters upstairs and a retail shop and art studio on the lower level. It was a 5-year Labor of Love, for sure.

Having completed our first year in business has brought us so much happiness and many surprises along the way. Having local consignment artists join us is such a joy for us to see their work get the recognition it deserves. And the Arts & Crafts workshops have been a community favorite, bringing people together to be creative and learn new skills. Being shopkeepers, we say to ourselves.... ”why didn’t we do this sooner?”

We Are Doing It Big Now

It was decided that a building that is mixed-use, that is a ‘fixer’ would encompass the search criteria. After what seemed like an exhaustive search the mixed-use building at 258 Commercial Street was identified as Dennis and Susie’s new home.
